GijimaAst Consulting

Overview

GijimaAst Consulting adds value in both the business and ICT worlds by unlocking maximum value from our client's business strategy and ICT investment. Using our unique talents and methodologies our services offer business improvement through the alignment of business and ICT.

We have a broad understanding of both the make-up of business and systems and how these should interrelate to ensure maximum benefit to our clients. Our methodologies are aligned to industry best practice. Project and Change management is the foundation that directs and guides all our deliverables to clients. This ensures that each requirement is scoped, budgeted and timed correctly to ensure quality delivery, while considering and managing the impact on the human environment.
We focus on complimenting what our clients have and optimise the entire solution utilising best practice and international standards. Our strength lies particularly in the integration of all the components. We enable our clients to "live their strategy" by harmonising both business and systems.

We service our client's requirements in the following enterprise streams:

  • Business and Systems Architecture
  • Enterprise Architecture
  • Corporate Performance Management
  • Identity and Access Management
  • IT Strategy / Master Systems Plan
  • Enterprise Project and Program Management
  • Change Management
  • Service Management

Business and Systems Architecture

GijimaAst Consulting has developed a Framework and Methodology based on recognised industry frameworks and theory. We use this framework to assist our clients with analysing, defining and maintenance of their business and systems architecture.
We are specialists in threading the golden thread from the overall strategy right through to the specific work package carried out.

Business Architecture

Our model allows us to analyse a business from any angle. The steps below can be done in any order depending on our client's requirements:

Governance Analysis

We analyse our client's principles, standards, policies and guidelines which are in place. We only review the applicable internal, national, international governance that would support our client's needs.

Strategy Analysis

We analyse our client's Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives and interrelate that to the required governance, existing organisation and available processes.

Organisation Analysis

We analyse our client's current organisation hierarchy to identify organisation entities concerned with governance, strategy, processes, information, applications and technology.

Process Analysis

We analyse our clients process architecture by modelling their value chain, broken down into the hierarchy of activities executed to realise the value chain. The sequence of activities, as a result of specific events and the result of the sequence of activities are also modelled as part of process architecture.
Once any or all of the above is complete, we review the requirements and either proceed to further analyse the information and technical layer or provide as a deliverable an Internet view of the above so that our clients can view their company at any angle.

Information Analysis

This step is the link between Business Architecture and Systems Architecture. Information Catalogue analysis and definition is based on our client's specific business drive, identifying what specific process knowledge and information flow is required to realise specific current or future business objectives.

Systems Architecture

Application Analysis

We analyse the applications that enable the execution of our client's business process in order to determine whether these applications allow our clients to achieve their strategic objectives.

Technology Analysis

We analyse our client's technology that enables their applications in order to ensure that the right technology is in place to ensure that the applications function on an optimised level.

Requirements Analysis

In the fast moving business environment the only constant is change.
We assist our clients with understanding their current and future requirements from a business as well as a governance perspective depending on the type of their business. Once the Business Architecture and Systems Architecture is reviewed we are able to define the "as-is" and the "to-be" scenarios and map the gap between them.

Roadmap

Once we understand the gap we with our client define the roadmap to close that gap. We can either assist our clients in closing that gap or we can provide our client with the roadmap in html format so that they can manage the closing of their gap. The evolution of client business and systems from the current state to required future state should be managed to ensure continued business success in a changing environment.

Enterprise Architecture

GijimaAst Consulting is able to describe and maintain the interrelationship between business (Governance, Strategy, Organisation and Process) and the systems (Information, Applications, Technology) necessary to realise the business and evolution of systems in response to a changing business environment.

Identity and Access Management

We offer a service to ensure Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of client business and systems.
We understand all the standards, best practices, issues and governance relating to Identity and Access Management. We interrelate this to our client's strategy to ensure that our client's information is never compromised.

Corporate Performance Management

We translate client strategy into action by designing appropriately aligned and rolled-down performance management score cards for all employees, assisting in implementing performance management and empowering our clients to sustain and improve corporate performance.

IT Strategy / Master Systems Plan

Information Technology (IT) should enable the business. GijimaAst Consulting offer a service to define "an integrated set of actions aimed at increasing the long-term well-being and strength of the enterprise relative to competitors." (Ward and Griffiths, 1996:63) using Information Technology.
We formulate Master Systems Plans / IT Strategy based on business requirements, analysis and what is required from a governance perspective.

Enterprise Project and Program Management

Every company must turn Project Management into one of its core competencies and put that competence to work. Without effective Project Management, realising corporate strategy will be virtually unattainable because of random rather than planned actions. We offer a service to enable our clients to implement its strategic plans at a tactical level by leveraging best practices in the project management domains i.e. portfolio, program and project.
We apply Project Management Institute (PMI®) standards in the GijimaAst environment and transfer this knowledge to all our clients. These standards include:

  • Project Management Book of Knowledge 3rd Edition® (PMBOK®) - provides the best practices for project managers.
  • Standard of Program Management® and Standard of Portfolio Management® - provides the best practices for program and portfolio managers.
  • Project Management Competency Development Framework® (PMDCF®). PMCDF® focuses on the improvement of the project manager's knowledge, personal and performance competencies.
  • Organisational Project Management Maturity Model® (OPM3®). OPM3® is a model to assess the organisations project management maturity. It is not a level based model but a model that highlights the best practices that should be in place for an organization so that the organisation can execute their projects within their organisational strategy.

As part of the Project Management service offering, GijimaAst Consulting provides:

  • Implementation of a Project management framework which is aligned to all the PMI® standards. The framework can be customised to client requirements as well as interface to any project management tool. The framework includes practical experience.
  • Maturity assessment and improvement plan using the OPM3® tool. This improvement plan can be done in conjunction with utilising our Business and Systems Architecture model to ensure that the projects our clients implement are in line with their strategy.
  • Project office implementation and development using a practiced methodology
  • Project management coaching and mentoring
  • Program management implementation
  • Placement of project management practitioners
  • Health checks, project audits and improvement plans to bring failing projects back into line based on the outcome of the health checks and/or project audits
  • Portfolio management implementations by partnering with our Business and System Architecture consultants.

Change Management

We understand the impact of changes on the organisation when any of our findings are mimplemented. Change Management is therefore part of our service offering for all implementations. We would therefore work with our clients to define the change management plan according to their company's culture and implement the plan with the endorsement of our client's senior management support.
